DIY: No-Sew Mini Wall Hanging

Happy weekend! Hope you’ve all had a good one. The plan for my Saturday morning was to pick up a couple of things for the boys as they’re really into crafts at the moment.

But I was in Hobbycraft. I was CHILD FREE! I had both hands free to hold the basket and everything. So I couldn’t leave without a little project for me too!

In the nursery, we have a lovely picture wall for the boys and there are lots of sentimental bits and pieces dotted around the house. In the days BC (before children) I would think nothing of spending an entire afternoon, self-indulgently squirreling away on my latest idea and spreading it all across the room.

Time is so constrained these days, stealing minutes here and there. I’ve seen so many lovely wall hangings on Pinterest and thought I would attempt to make my own version. Whatever I make these days has to be easy. This project doesn’t take long at all. It’s no-sew, and it’s so simple I can just barely call it a tutorial! Here’s how to make it.

DIY: No-Sew Mini Wall Hanging

First, you’ll need to gather your materials.

You’ll need:

  • Fabric
  • Felt
  • Adhesive letters
  • Wooden dowel
  • Twine, wool or ribbon for hanging

(I’ve linked to the exact products I used at the bottom of this post).

Also:

  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Strong fabric glue
  • Scissors
  • Paper clips

Here’s how:

  • Cut your fabric to a piece measuring 18cm x 12 cm
  • Run a bead of fabric glue one of the short edges (on the back)
  • Fold over 2cm at the top, creating a channel for your dowel to run through. Allow to dry. (I used paper clips to hold the fabric together while drying).
  • Next, cut a piece of felt to 13cm x 10 cm
  • Apply glue to the felt, and then press it onto the back of your wall hanging, lining it up along the bottom edge.
  • When dry, mark a point in the centre of the width of the felt, and cut the two edges into points, meeting at the mark.
  • Cut your length of wooden dowel to 15cm
  • Lay out your letters in the phrase or name you wish, centering them accordingly.
  • When you’re happy, glue your letters on. Allow to dry.
  • Thread your dowel through the top of the wall hanging.
  • Tie a length of your twine/ribbon to each end of the dowel, and hang from the centre.

Easy! Hang it in your kitchen or bedroom to brighten your mornings, or a sunny spot in your child’s room perhaps?

I really love how this turned out, and I can see myself making more. Later in the year I can imagine something autumn or Christmas themed looking great!
