I was tagged by Hannah from Hi Baby Blog to complete the Christmas Tag – basically answering some Christmassy questions as a way to reflect on a few things and really get in the festive mood! So here goes…
What’s your favourite Christmas movie?
I love a bit of Home Alone. I’m not a very big film person though and there are so many ‘big’ holiday films I just haven’t seen! John did introduce me to It’s A Wonderful Life a few years ago though and I loved that too.
Have you ever had a white Christmas?
I don’t remember a white Christmas specifically, but my memories of Christmas as a child are that it was always cold, properly cold! Not the mild weather of today! In fact, thinking back over the last 9 Christmases in this house, I can only remember one freezing one. 2009. That time when a water main burst, flooding the gas pipes and leaving us with no heating or hot water for 9 long days. My Christmas spirit was in short supply that year.
Wearing a scarf and two hoodies to make mince pies, as you do when your home resembles a walk-in fridge…
Where do you usually spend your holiday?
At home! It’s nice to be at home, particularly while the boys are small as there’d be so much to pack up and take away with us at the moment!
What is your favourite Christmas song?
For me it has to be Mariah Carey, All I Want for Christmas Is You! It’s one that’s been around in all my living memory really, so it makes me reminisce! Although, if I had to choose a song for this year only, it would be Mary’s Boy Child by Boney M! (Bear with me on this one…) My Douglas absolutely lights up when this song comes on, runs into the room and proceeds to sway and clap as only an eighteen month old can to the disco vibe. Toddlers – dancing like no one’s watching since forever. It’s the best.
Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
I used to be allowed to open one as a child (my parents probably got fed up of me poking, shaking and prodding the presents under the tree!)
Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
I’ll give it a go… Dancer, Prancer, Comet, Cupid, Blitzen, Donner, Rudolph… is that it?!
Which holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?
Getting the boys’ stockings ready for Father Christmas, and leaving out a glass of milk and mince pie for him. And a carrot for Rudolph, of course!
Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
We used to always go and choose a real tree, but since having the boys, artificial has seemed an easier and more hygienic option! It actually has a really nice shape too, and is pre-lit so no arguing over tangled lights!
What is your all time favourite holiday treat/food/sweet?
There’s nothing I dislike about Christmas food to be honest, but I do think Christmas cake is a bit special as it’s not something you eat year-round.
Be honest, do you like giving or receiving gifts better?
I think I do like giving better! It’s always lovely to see someone’s reaction when you’ve got it just right.
What is the best Christmas present you ever received?
As a child I remember really loving a teal coloured pushchair and thinking it was the best thing ever! As an adult, my Macbook Air comes pretty high up the list!
What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
I do like being at home but wouldn’t rule out a holiday over Christmas when the boys are a bit older. A cosy cottage somewhere in the country would be nice.
Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?
Well. I love stationery so am always browsing Pinterest and checking out bloggers’ ideas for creative wrapping techniques. Sadly though, when it comes down to it I’m pushed for time so stick the usual paper/ribbon/tags combination! I do try to be neat though!
Most memorable Christmas moment?
I would probably have to say telling my parents that I was pregnant! We’d had our 12 week scan the week before Christmas, which gave us the perfect lead up to a big reveal. We handed them each an envelope. Inside was a card with a scan photo on it. They both burst into tears but before they could hug us we had to try to explain, ‘Make sure you swap and look at both pictures!’ Then the penny dropped it was twins! They had absolutely no idea. Then I took off my baggy Christmas apron revealing the beginnings of my twin baby bump!
What made you realise the truth about Santa?
I think a kid at school kind of started me doubting as he said he saw his mum sneaking into his room to leave his stocking!
What makes the holidays special for you?
The little quiet moments you share with loved ones amidst all the madness.
So there we go, that’s the Christmas Tag! Hope you enjoyed reading and are now feeling suitably festive!
There are only 3 more sleeps now until the big day – are you organised or more of a last-minute person?!
